Youth Leadership

"Man has responsibility, not power." — Unknown Native American

Rising Stars

The capabilities we use to coach organizations and business executives also can help community organizations, schools, and churches develop the next generation of leaders.

  • Do you believe young people are prepared to become tomorrow’s leaders?
  • Are their scholastic results what they should be?
  • Would you like to see increased grade point averages?
  • Would you like to see them complete college on the 4-year plan instead of the 5 or 6-year plan?
  • Could we do a better job of preparing our young people to … climb higher, reach farther, and perform better?

Enabling youth to make positive life choices

The Rising Stars Process is designed to help today's youth develop their personal leadership skills and begin to set goals and directions for their lives beginning at an earlier age. Leadership is essential in enabling youth to develop character, confidence, and values that promote the understanding of healthy behavior.

Rising Stars is an innovative and unique inside-out self-development process. This research-based approach focuses on three critical elements that promote personal leadership, healthy behaviors, and the skills employers identify as essential.  These elements are developed, applied, and reinforced throughout the process and through a follow-up process to strengthen and perpetuate successful behaviors.

Why it is important ...

Rising Stars addresses an individual and community need that was documented in a report from the American Medical Association which states, “For the first time in the history of the country, young people are less healthy and less prepared to take their places in society than their parents.  Moreover, this is happening at the time when our society is more complex, more challenging and more competitive than ever before.”

Some of the many positive outcomes of Rising Stars participants include:

  • Reduction in at-risk behavior
  • Increase in school attendance
  • Increase in academic performance and grade point average
  • Improved decision making
  • Increased social competence and service to others
  • Improved time management and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to function as team leader and/or team player

Who benefits most?

Activities and materials have been crafted for middle and high school students but can be adapted for other ages. It can be facilitated in a private one-on-one basis or in a group setting.

How is it delivered?

Rising Stars is not facilitated in an ordinary classroom setting. It is a high energy, dynamic program of activities that are engaging and interactive. This program is typically around 24 hours in length and can be delivered in a weekly session format for several hours per week or in a one week camp session format.

This program is teaching us to be leaders and to communicate with our school peers as well as adults. These skills will help us to become better leaders in the school and community. This leadership class will give me the skills to assist my underclassmen in their high school activities dealing with pressures." - Derrick N. , Rising Stars Participant

"Rising Stars made me realize that everything I want to do isn't so big and it can be done." - Steve S., Rising Stars Participant

"My daughter graduated from the program a year and a half ago and I'm still noticing the positive effects that the program has had on her. Since she went through the Leadership Program, I've watched her grow and mature and become much more responsible. She has set some goals in life and even asked me about my short term and long term goals for my life!" - Patricia C., Parent of a Rising Stars Participant.

"We felt the program was a great success and goes a long way toward creating leaders out of all kids: not only the ones who are already recognized as leaders in their schools, but also for those who might be experiencing some disciplinary and educational challenges." - George M., Prevention Coordinator for County Department of Education

"From my experiences with this program not only for my personal development, but from what I have witnessed in real life with students, has been an invaluable experience. I believe in the success of Rising Stars and the impact that it has on people's lives, and throughout my profession I will continue to be an advocate for the program and utilize the concepts in future activities." - Jennifer J., Student Coordinator for a Scholarship Program
