Who We Are

"I am convinced that nothing we do is more important than hiring and developing people. At the end of the day you bet on people, not on strategies." — Larry Bossidy

Rising Stars in the Southwest is an organization that supports today’s teens in reaching their full potential and actualizing their dreams. Our diverse business experience equips us to bring a global perspective to leadership. The learning solutions we employ can help a teen achieve personal success and growth through a combination of learning, sharing, and building leadership skills, while approaching life with balance and sensitivity to others. We are very much committed to helping youth leadership and local community organizations develop and grow, and to contribute to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the global community.

Principal Resource
Roy Martinez has more than 30 years of experience in developing people to achieve business results: first in his own restaurant in Los Angeles, then in a national restaurant chain, and finally in a Global 100 foodservice company. When global food giant Unilever integrated three predecessor companies into a new foodservice manufacturing business, Roy was instrumental in transforming the sales force with a new selling framework that emphasized consultative selling to large restaurant chains with a diverse global team. His leadership-development expertise improved selection and retention of sales managers and helped bring new salespeople up to speed quickly.

Roy also helped Bestfoods International double its sales force and achieve double-digit annual sales gains as their national sales training manager. As Director of Training at Sizzler International, he developed restaurant management training that improved the chain’s profitability, and helped develop and launch new restaurant concepts.

Roy is active in business learning organizations and is recognized as a leader in leadership development and consultative sales development.

Roy is currently serving as a director on the Santa Fe Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board and serves as the Chair for the Education Committee with the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce in New Mexico. Along with other local business leaders, Roy supports the DECA club at Capital High School in Santa Fe.
